Don't do it, VA!
I'm of the firm belief that he'd be an albatross around Cooch's neck and we don't need that. The "Republicans are extremists" is a line that works well enough, even if it's not true. There is no need to add oil to it by nominating a TP candidate for Lt.Gov.

I keep having to correct myself that we're not talking about Rancho Palos Verdes. California Problems
Real discussion question though. Should E.W. Jackson win the Lt. Gov nomination will it be a "right-wing" albatross around Cooch's neck or could it fire up some conservatives (perhaps even blacks, though I may be reaching) to vote R?

1) I see myself running for Twp. supervisor or Borough Council with the next 5 to 10 years.
2) I have voted for the occasional Democrats for local and state offices. I voted for McChord last year and Wagner in 2008. I voted for some local Democrats in 2009.

Mitch McConnell

I don't remember McConnell ever saying he'll do whatever he can to ensure Obama's failure nor do his actions indicate he's gone out of his way to make that happen. Actually, McConnell has been Obama's best Republican ally on the hill. Obama has had a contentious relationship with John Boehner and House Republicans, so much so that he rarely engages them.
If not for Joe Biden and Mitch McConnell, two men who worked together for years, a lot of things wouldn't even get started. Remember that it was McConnell and Biden that developed the tax deal in December and that McConnell was key in developing the Budget Control Act.
Yes, Republicans do filibuster senate bills, but that's largely because Harry Reid won't let Republican bills come to the floor and has most bills that do come with limited or no amendments. In the past, most majority leaders have shown a willingness of give and take with the minority. Harry Reid never has.
I don't think Republicans are going to put up more of a fight for the next Obama appointee than they have the last two. Ginsberg is pretty far to the left so it won't change the make-up of the court. If a Republican justice were to be replaced, however, then there could be an issue.

Davis's was pretty workmanlike. An odd part was Darrel Issa supporting her in her introductary video.
Jackson was indeed spectacular.
Stimpson's doing well but it's a tough act to follow.

Candidates

Why do you think the nonincumbent statewide R candidates were generally terrible? Maybe better potential candidates decided not to run because of so many D incumbents running. I thought more state legislators would've ran. I think only Dale Folwell was a state legislator who ran statewide and he didn't make it to a runoff. (His campaign didn't function like I thought it would've and I think Dan Forest's grassroots support proved to be the difference in the LG race.) Probably having 2 year terms in the General Assembly makes it less likely for legislators to run statewide because they can't keep their office if they lose like in states with 4 year terms for legislators. Even with the incumbent D's running, I thought more decent R's would run because McCrory was at the top of the ticket and he wound up winning by a sizable margin.
