Cory Booker: "If you look at the totality of Bain Capital's record, they've done a lot to support businesses, to grow businesses.  "And this (Obama attacks on Bain), to me, I'm very uncomfortable with."- Yes, this quote is from Obama surrogate Cory Booker. The best part about this? The Obama campaigns selective editing of a video Booker put on YouTube defending his comments. Booker's video seemingly doubled down on his remarks, while the Obama campaign's edit made it seem as if he was walking them back.

Tennessee: LOL poll of the day for Vanderbilt University. They have Romney leading Obama only 42-41 in TN among adults, although that lead expands to 47-42 among registered voters.

Veepstakes: According to Race 4 2012, Beth Myers, the head of Romney's VP search, has requested info from the following: Sens. Marco Rubio, Kelly Ayotte, and Rob Portman, Govs. Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal, and Tim Pawlenty, and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

Senate

Connecticut: For the second time in as many years, the delegates to the CT GOP convention have endorsed Linda McMahon for Senate over a longtime former Congressman. McMahon beat former Rep. Chris Shays 60-32. Shays received enough support to qualify for the primary ballot, however.

Nebraska: Crossroads GPS is up with a new ad attacking Bob Kerrey for supporting and benefiting from the Wall Street bailout.

Texas: Lt. Gov David Dewhurst has loaned his Senate campaign another $6 million, bringing his total to $8 million as he fights to avoid a run-off in the May 29 primary.

House

IL-13: Rodney Davis, the former Executive Director of the IL GOP and a former John Shimkus aide, has been chosen as the GOP nominee in the 13th district, after Rep. Tim Johnson abandoned his re-election campaign.

ND-AL: A Forum Communications Co. poll shows PSCs Brian Kalk (R) and Kevin Cramer (R) leading likely Democratic nominee Pam Gulleson 48-31 and 61-23, respectively. In the primary, Cramer leads the party-endorsed Kalk 38-25.

Other

MI-GOP: A big shake-up in the MI GOP this weekend, as two longtime party officials lost re-election. RNC Committeeman Saul Anuzis, a former MI GOP chair and two-time candidate for RNC Chair, lost re-election to state Rep. Dave Agema. Longtime Committeewoman State Rep. Holly Hughes also lost to former SoS Terri Lynn Land.

WI-Gov: The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel capped off a horrible week for Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett with an endorsement of Gov. Scott Walker and a strong argument against the recall.

VA-Gov: State Sen. Chap Peterson (D) has announced that he will not run for Governor in 2013. Its looking like the Democratic primary will be a coronation for Sen. Mark Warner or, if Warner doesn't run, former DNC Chair Terry McAuliffe.

OH-Gov: Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald is considering a run for Governor in 2014. Rep. Tim Ryan is considered a much more likely prospect.

I am surprised the left does not hate his guts at this point.  His closeness with Christie and his apparently defense of Bain Capital should be driving them nuts.

He's basically a moderate Republican posing as a Democrat for political convenience.

Right now he's essentially made it much harder for himself to run for Governor and cleared the way for liberal fave Buono to be the 2013 nominee and impossible for Obama to give him the keynote clearing the way for liberal fave Elizabeth Warren to be the keynote speaker at the DNC. I want to go give the guy a hug, this was worth the day (6 hours?) of bad press.

(... that's just my opinion however, maybe there are some outraged liberals somewhere - wouldn't surprise me)

Are we saying that to be a Democrat you have to hate capitalism? The guy is smart, capable, and driven. Sounds like someone the Democrats should drive out.

What did Booker do wrong? The guy invests huge amounts of city employee pension funds with venture capitalists. What is he supposed to say? That he does it so that he can make their pensions disappear? Venture capitalists make them money.

Democrats are throwing out the stat that 22% of the companies that Bain invested in entered bankruptcy in 8 years. I'm amazed at how low that number is, considering Bain's business model was to invest cheaply in companies on the verge of failure. Of course there are a number of successes post-bankruptcy. You'd think Democrats [cough] GM [cough] would know that.

The big thing to remember about Cory Booker is that he is competent. Which says a lot because so many pols (both Dems & Reps) are incompetent, crooked or just phone it in. Booker doesnt do talking points. He has single handily turned Newark around. IMHO Booker is a Dem version of Rudy Giuliani. You can forgive any differences on policy or impurities in his ideology because he does such a damned good job at running his city.

A great guy, but . . .
Ryan is superb, but he is the last guy who should run with Romney. Then the Dems would make the Ryan budget the big issue of the campaign instead of Obama's failed presidency. If you are the issue, the other guy wins; if the other guy is the issue, you win.

I actually believe he could be the very best choice possible.

Romney picking Ryan would force President Obama to run a campaign that focuses on real fiscal issues (and just fiscal issues in general) instead of stupid fluff. It's easy to demonize Ryan's budget as "GOING TO KILL SENIORS BY ENDING MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY!1!!!1!" However, if Ryan can provide a clear and compelling narrative as to why his reforms are absolutely necessary for both short and long term job creation as well as deficit reduction and ensuring prosperity for the next generation, he could be a huge asset to a Romney candidacy. He'd show fiscal conservatives that Romney is serious about serious reforms and would really energize suburban voters. In fact, I think Romney/Ryan could make some modest but deep inroads back in the fiscally conservative, socially moderate/liberal suburban areas of many major cities that the GOP has lost ground in. Think parts of Long Island, Westchester County, MontCo (PA), the North Shore of the Chicago suburbs, southern parts of the new WA-01, parts of NoVA, parts of suburban Denver, and quite a few other crucial areas.

Basically, Ryan is a high risk, high reward type pick but, if done right, his narrative could force the race right into Romney's sweet spot.

She was talked about for Wirch's Senate seat but didn't run. She's young (38) but has been in the House since 2001. If not her, maybe Jonathan Steitz, who ran for Wirch's seat. He didn't win, but he impressed me.

I would love to see Paul Ryan as VP, but I'm not sure that I can trust anyone else with his current position, not because others don't have the same intentions or even the same abilities, but because we don't know if one of those that does would get the position, and even then, the new Chairnan would have to get settled in and used to the position, possibly squandering time and effort.

Half the ambitious Republicans in Wisconsin are waiting out Sensenbrenner and he shows no signs of slowing down. If I was a low-level elected official in WI-5 and someone offered me a free nomination in WI-1 I'd take it in a heartbeat to avert that inevitable madhouse of a primary.

I'd guess that the parts of Waukesha added to WI-01 are going to be fast growing areas compared to dying cities like Racine.

Minnesota legislature
A number of endorsements went out over the weekend, and the primary picture is shaping up.

In district 5A, Tom Anzelc got the party endorsement over upstart La Prairie city councilman Joe Gould. Gould originally entered against McElfatrick before the maps were redrawn. The nomination process was civil, and the two of them remain close. Gould pledged to abide by the endorsement.

Down in Chanhassen, Julie Ortmann got a primary challenger. Ostensibly from the right, but Ortmann herself is pretty far out in right field as it is, so it may be a style thing, but I am not as in tune with exurban Republican inner workings, so I will defer to our other local residents.

In Minneapolis, senator Higgins is getting a new job in the Hennepin County Second District. No non-DFLers are expected to file, and although her opponents have said they will fight on to the primary, this one is a done deal.

I am a Tom Rukavina Democrat.

as I am still watching KY4 & AR4. I think Cotton leads but I wonder if he avoids runoff.  I am thinking Massie in KY4 but primaries a bit unpredictable.  Party registration in KY might limit Massie's vote.

The district appears to be leftovers. They drew Issa and Hunter fairly easily, with few oddities. (Why is that tentacle along the ocean?)

Then they drew a Hispanic district and Davis' district nesting in it. CA-52 does have a lot of weirdness. It takes in the Gaslamp Quarter, which I'm sure the business leaders wanted in this district, along with Petco Park. As IJB said, it inexplicably divides UCSD. It looks like they drew it so Issa could get Torrey Pines in his district. I do like that northern tentacle that just takes in the Safari Park, which apparently has been renamed in the last 10 years. I have no idea why they did that.

I'm in MO-2 about .2 mile from being on the wrong side of the boundary of MO-1.
Which is actually an improvement from in the old lines being .1 mile away from being on the wrong side of the boundary.

And, if I go to Schuncks; I'm shopping in district 2, but if I go to Taco Bell across that street I'm shopping in district 1.

Also, any time I go south bound on I-270, I end up cutting thru MO-1.

I'm near four different districts
I'm in the SE part of the 8th District. My township (a 6x6 mile portion) borders MI-11 (McCotter) to the east and MI-7 (Walberg) to the South. Two townships south of me is Dingell's district, MI-15.

The funny part is none of the reps live near the junction areas outside of Mike Rogers who now moved about 12 miles away. Walberg's down in Lenawee County. Dingell's in Dearborn. McCotter's in Livonia.

Thy live in the 5th but are no more than 3/4 of a milled from the 3rd 4th and 6th as well.

Whereas I could actually throw a baseball to the 3rd from my home in the 5th if I had a tailwind, as 494 is fairly wide, but the sound barrier is literally the edge of my backyard
