Answer
2013: Jim Webb for governor of Virginia.

2014: Steve Beshear against Mitch McConnell.

Democrat, NC-11

FWIW
I don't think McConnell is vulnerable to anyone in Kentucky. Voting for a Democrat locally doesn't continue on nationally in Kentucky for a long time.

Booker: Decision within 2 weeks
http://www.politico.com/blogs/...

""I am absolutely considering running for governor, as well as giving other options some consideration. I'm going to be focused on that for the next week to ten days or so," Booker said on CBS's "Face The Nation."
Booker said he's also giving serious thought to a Senate bid. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) will be 90 in 2014, raising the possibility that his seat might come open.

I think he'll go for Lautenberg's seat, I'd be shocked to see him jumping into the race. Yes, Christie's AR will come down, but I still think that he will be the favorite to win the election - and that means something for a Republican governing dark blue NJ.

Weekend Open Question
Jinda for Senate!

German citizen - Conservative by heart, non native english speaker

He's not running
You don't launch a campaign the week before Christmas. I expect him to rule out a gubernatorial bid and explore a Senate run for 3-6 months to try and goad Lautenberg into retirement.

R - MD-7

[ Parent ]
Agreed
Worst case scenario, Lautenberg stubbornly sticks it out and loses to the mayor 60-40 in the primary. If it inexplicably reaches that point.

Vilsack's husband is upset at rural America.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/s...

I guess losing by 10 to Steve King, could make you whine.

25, Male, R, NY-10

How charming
a nice husband gesture ...

but Christie Vilsack's campaign wasn ... it wasn't really good. King will stay in that district until he dies of old age, or retires.

Steve King is no West/Bachmann
He slightly overperformed in 2012.

Lori Swanson for MN-Gov
I have never been a big fan of Mark Dayton

I am a Tom Rukavina Democrat.

OR-Sen
I wish Gordon Smith would go for the re-match with Merkley. Merkley has been a useless Senator, who narrowly won in the 2008 landslide and with a Constitution Party candidate taking 5% of the vote. And Smith is the only guy at this point that could make this race competitive. In many other Senate races this year, besides (SMC in WV), I think there are a few GOPers that could make competitive races.

R, MA-3

McDonell for VA-SEN
Gives us the only person with a nonzero chance against Warner (though still small, unfortunately), but at least it might damage him a bit. Far more worried about him than 2008's Mrs. Inevitable.

Also, if he loses, prevents us from hearing about transvaginal ultrasounds in 2016.

Thought process...
Governor: Tom Foley in CT or Pat Meehan or Jim Gerlach in PA
Senate: Gordon Smith in OR or Tom Cotton in AR
House: Andrew Roraback in CT or Richard Tisei in MA

I guess that if I had to pick just one, it'd be Meehan or Gerlach for Governor... but I think Meehan would be the best bet. It was hard for me to pull that lever over Tom Cotton for Senate, however.

So, Pat Meehan for Governor is my pick.

On a more snarky note, here's my Democratic list.
Governor: John Baldacci in ME
Senate: Ashley Judd in KY
House: The entire SEPA Democratic candidate bench from 2012. Run, Boooooockvar, Schrader, Daugherty, Trivedi, and Badey, run!1!1!

*Strader
Just proves my point.

Judd
I'm honestly surprised at how empty Democrats have come in KY. That's basically their one good offense opportunity unless Broun wins the primary in GA. You think they'd be pushing harder to get Grimes/Mongiardo/Beshear/Abramson/Luallen/etc. thinking about it rather than letting them all pile up in the 2015 race.

R - MD-7

[ Parent ]
Maybe
You should wait for the PPP poll this week to show exactly in how little danger McConnell is?

25, Male, R, NY-10

[ Parent ]
There's a big issue with running against McConnell
Its not a trial run for another office. It's a path to basically getting destroyed from having any other political career again.

[ Parent ]
Well, no
Steve Beshear was McConnell's 1996 opponent, so he clearly had a political future afterward.

Democrat, NC-11

[ Parent ]
I'm talking about McConnell's 2014 campaign
McConnell has not run remarkably good campaigns in the past. Compare McConnell to Reid. Nobody wanted to run against Reid, and nobody wants to run against McConnell.

[ Parent ]
Beshear will be 70
It's now or never, anyhow, and the Kentucky Dems won't find a better option. It's moot in any case since he's already ruled it out.

Democrat, NC-11

[ Parent ]
Don't think you'd need to waste your one recruitment on Foley
I would be shocked if he didn't run

I want him to primary Corbett.

Allan Kittleman for Maryland Governor. He is quite frankly the only Republican that could win it - but unfortunately he looks like he's headed toward the Howard CE race.

Winter came to Minnesota in a hurry
Went to bed last night and it wasn't snowing. Woke up this morning to 8 inches of snow, and it's continued to snow all day since. Good day not to leave.

Not quite
Although in fairness, northern Minnesota got nearly no snow overnight, all of the snow fell on the southern 2/3 of the state

Southeastern Pennsylvania weather
People in the Delaware Valley like to complain about the weather here but it's significantly milder than this time of year back home in Chicago. Also, Saturday night was a decent night, seeing as my friends and I all went around campus last night in button down shirts and khakis or jeans and we were all totally fine without jackets. Today and Friday, however, were both fairly gross.

Snow
still coming down hard.

Somehow managed to drive up Roseville and back this morning without an accident.  Took me nearly forty minutes each way taking Snelling (normally ~15).

In 2013, Ray Kelly for mayor, obviously.

In 2014, I'm quite fond of a Tierney-Tisei rematch, sans Obama atop the ticket. Also, maybe Mike Gravel launching a primary challenge to Begich's left. That'd be delightful.

24, MA-07, Rockefeller Republican. Visit me at http://twitter.com/polibeast

Mike Gravel
Mike Gravel left the Democratic primary and became a Libertarian. He's also in his eighties, and, given how effective his presidential run was, I wonder if Begich would even notice him.

Gary Johnson in New Mexico
My favorite recruit would be Gary Johnson running against Udall in New Mexico. Libertarians like to claim they can do better in Democratic-leaning areas where traditional Republicans cannot, so I feel like an enthusiastic Republican run by Gary Johnson could be an interesting test of that idea against the popular Udall.

Tom Periello for VA Gov
I know, hahaha the netroots will have a liberal orgasm over him, but in my following of politics he has seemed like one of the most hardworking, honest, and not political (as in not always trying to score political points) representatives. I don't support him just because he is liberal (he is probably even less liberal that McAuliffe, I support him because he is just generally a great politician and a good human being

I want Ileana Ros-Lehtinen to challenge Rick Scott
in the gubernatorial primary. Democrat Crist will surely beat Scott. The GOP would not have to be nervous if only McCollum won the 2010 primary. If not Ros-Lehtinen, then I'll settle for state CFO Jeff Atwater or state Agriculture Comm. Adam Putnam.

Ros-Lehtinen would never do that
